Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is as old as recorded history and probably even older.  It allows you to communicate with the unconscious mind and is a widely accepted method for helping people to make changes at an unconscious level.

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for self-improvement and/or the release of problems and whilst all hypnotherapy employs hypnosis, not all hypnosis is hypnotherapy.

Contrary to what many may believe, there is more to helping someone overcome an unwanted habit than simply giving hypnotic suggestions and much depends on whether a person really wants to overcome the habit.

Common Concerns

People are sometimes concerned that they will lose control in hypnosis.

However, regardless of how deeply people may go in hypnosis and however passive they may appear to be, the client will remain in full control of the situation and are fully able to talk if they wish to (or not, as the case may be) and can stand up and leave the room at any time.

A hypnotised person cannot be made to do anything against their usual ethical or moral judgement or religious belief.

The notion of a loss of control stems from most people's misconception of stage hypnosis, in which participants are apparently made to perform all manner of (mainly foolish) acts, however, participation in a stage act is an entirely voluntary process  with "permission" already given by the volunteer to the hypnotist and therefore no volunteer is unaware of exactly what they are letting themselves in for.
